The Risk Manager Outpatient Services serves under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management (“AVP ERM”) to implement and monitor an integrated, proactive outpatient risk management program per the Enterprise Risk Management Plan. This includes frequent traveling to all VHC Health outpatient offices throughout the DMV to provide system-wide risk identification, investigation, mitigation, grievances management and risk reduction activities. This role is critical to deliver collaborative, data-driven risk management and risk mitigation support. Identifies and tracks outpatient risk through trend analysis of incidents, leading investigations of adverse events, conducting risk assessments, creating risk registers, prioritizing risk, developing risk mitigation plans, developing risk reduction strategies, and implementing best practices. The Manager will verify whether the outpatient office requirements under CMS are met or need to be augmented. Promotes culture of safety and provides unique outpatient practice guidance to staff and physicians, and serves as a liaison on issues such as consent, patient-family concerns, de-escalation of workplace aggression and outpatient policy and procedure development. Maintains current and accurate knowledge of regulations, laws and standards pertaining to the healthcare setting, including, but not limited to, FDA, TJC and CMS Medicare Conditions of Participation. Knowledge of and abides by the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) Healthcare Risk Management Code of Professional Conduct. Reports to external agencies, as applicable.
Education:
- Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Management, Juris Doctor or a related field is preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in nursing or a healthcare related field is required.
Experience:
- Two years of healthcare/medical - nursing/patient care experience is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or compact state licensure in nursing is preferred.
- CPHRM certification is preferred.
Other Qualifications
- Manage time in such a way to meet individual and team goals for productivity, quality on a daily basis
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload according to project goals and objectives
- Strong ability to educate staff and physicians on risk exposures, prevention and reduction strategies
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
- Able to develop, compile and analyze statistical reports.
