Reports to: Extended Day Supervisor

Dates: June 24, 2024-August 2, 2024, Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Training Dates: June 20, 21, and 23rd 2024

Background:

Camp Rodef Shalom is a Jewish day camp in the heart of Falls Church, Virginia with over 40 years of history. With campers ranging in age from 4 to 12 years old, we offer a wide variety of activities and trips throughout the summer. Camp Rodef Shalom values inclusion and supports both campers and staff.

Position Summary:

Camp Rodef Shalom is seeking energetic, enthusiastic, fun and committed extended day counselors for our summer season! Extended day counselors are an essential part of our camp staff. They are community builders and motivators who work together to create an amazing extended day experience. Extended day staff should be self-driven and able to lead a group, follow a schedule, connect, and engage with campers and ensure all campers are involved, safe and enjoying camp!

Qualifications: This is the ideal job for applicants who have classes / another morning job and are available primarily in the afternoons.

  • Must be 16 or older before 9/30/2024
  • Complete Staff Training and available to work the entire camp session
  • First Aid, CPR, and Babysitting Certification are a plus.
  • Experience working with children is preferred: must enjoy being around children while maintaining patience and high energy
  • Maturity & professionalism: must be able to focus prioritize staff responsibility over socializing with peers
  • Flexibility: must be a team-player and address problems as they arise
  • Takes initiative and open to new experiences, opportunities and feedback
  • Must be able to participate in physical activity for the duration of the camp day: consistently be on your feet, be outside in heat and sun, participate in activities, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plan/lead activities, crafts, sports, etc. for participants
  • Ensure an inclusive camp group where all campers feel welcome: create personal connections and opportunities for campers to get to know each other, eat lunch with campers, etc.
  • Prioritize camper safety: know where campers are at all times, observe camper behaviors and understand group dynamic, in case of serious injury take charge, delegate and communicate with extended day supervisor
  • Mediate conflicts and difficult situations that may arise and reporting any concerns or incidents to Leadership Team
  • Be familiar with camper’s needs and act accordingly to directions provided: special accommodations, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, behavioral challenges of the campers etc.
