Hiring Process Overview

When you apply for a job with Arlington County, the hiring process may include one or more of the following:

• REVIEW OF YOUR APPLICATION | Each application is reviewed to determine whether your qualifications (e.g., experience, training, skills, education) meet the requirements of the job. 
• PHONE SCREENING | A brief phone call may be used to discuss your background and interest in the position.
• WRITTEN AND/OR ORAL TEST | You may be asked to take a written or spoken assessment to demonstrate your knowledge and skills related to the job.
• VIDEO-BASED ONE-WAY INTERVIEW | You might be asked to record answers to pre-recorded interview questions in a video that you submit online.
• PANEL INTERVIEW | You may be interviewed by a group of Arlington County staff, either in person or virtually.
• WORK SAMPLE/WORK TASK | For some jobs, you may be asked to complete a work sample or task that demonstrates your ability to perform the job.
• MEDICAL EVALUATION | For certain positions, a physical exam may be required to ensure you can meet the job’s physical demands.
• PHYSICAL ABILITIES ASSESSMENT | For certain positions, a physical abilities assessment may be required to ensure you meet the minimum physical requirements of the job.
