Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Market Manager – FTT Employee
Location: Hybrid, All Markets
Rate: $30/hour

General Description:
The Assistant Market Manager supports the overall management and operation of a weekly open-air farmers market, taking over Market Manager duties when the Market Manager is unavailable. This role requires a reliable individual who can work well with others, handle all types of customer-related issues, and be agile with last-minute changes. The ideal candidate should be willing to learn new social media skills to enhance all our markets’ online presence while maintaining a grassroots community vibe. This person will also fill in for Market Managers as needed and work on our newsletter, photography, and social media accounts. A self-starter who is creative and looking to be a part of a community network is essential.

Essential Functions:

Market Operations:

  • Establish and ensure adherence to market design and layout.
  • Supervise market setup, management, and teardown; coordinate and manage onsite paid staff and volunteers.
  • Engage with customers and enforce market rules.
  • Resolve onsite vendor issues as needed.
  • Assist in developing training materials and guides for volunteers.
  • Perform special tasks as assigned by the Executive Director or Market Managers.

Market Communications, Promotional Activities, and Community Engagement:

  • Assist with maintaining all the markets’ website and social media content.
  • Collaborate with the Market Managers to develop innovative market promotion ideas.
  • Assist in developing and implementing surveys and other data collection methods to address questions from FTT Board Members regarding vendors, market participants, and competitive analysis.

Administrative:

  • Timesheets: Accurately account for time worked and submit timesheets on a timely basis.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent; some post-high school education preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of general work experience; management experience and prior experience with farmers markets preferred.
  • Supervised Positions: Market Assistants and volunteers.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
This position requires moderate physical activity, including the ability to lift and transport 25 lbs. during market setup and teardown, and involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
