This announcement is specific to the Therapeutic Recreation Office, which provides adapted camps and inclusion support services to individuals with a disability. If you are interested in other camp program areas, you must apply directly to those positions.
The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) Therapeutic Recreation Team is seeking temporary summer Camp Counselors, Directors, and Assistant Directors for our adapted Summer Camps and to provide inclusion support for general recreation camps throughout the County.
Staff should expect to work from June 17 - August 9 (core camp dates). Additional weeks from August 12 – August 23 may also be available. Training and planning begin in mid to late May through June, which includes a combination of independent and self-paced virtual online courses and in-person trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays. Several positions are available, and hours vary.
We are seeking energetic, dedicated, and fun-loving candidates for the following positions:
Inclusion Support: Provides 1:1 assistance or lower staff-to-camper ratios for campers ages 3-21 with disabilities at multiple general recreation camps throughout the County. Focusing on enhancing campers' skill development, encouraging expected behaviors, and providing personal care while nurturing both independent and group participation.
Adapted Camps: Engages campers aged 6-21 with disabilities within an adapted camp setting. Facilitates an enjoyable and uplifting camp atmosphere while providing dedicated assistance in skill development, encouraging expected behaviors, and attending to personal care needs. Cultivates both independent and group participation among campers, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Substitute Support: Provides intermittent hours each week. Responsibilities may include subbing as needed in our general recreation camps providing inclusion support or supporting our adapted camps. Flexibility and ability to work on an as-needed basis is preferred.

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT (SRA) I @ $15.00/Hourly
Assisting with leading recreation activities, camp program operations, and behavior management of participants.
Minimum requirements: Does not require a High School Diploma. Min age 14
SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT (SRA) II @ $16.00/Hourly
Assisting with managing recreation activities, behavior management of participants, and evaluations of the activities.
Minimum requirements: Experience working with youth or administering summer/recreation programs.
RECREATION ASSISTANT (RA) III @ $18.72/Hourly
Performing supervisory and administrative duties, including managing recreation activities, and processing participant and program evaluations.
Minimum requirements: High school/GED, plus some experience working with youth or administering recreation programs.
RECREATION ASSISTANT (RA) IV @ $22.54/Hourly
Directing summer camp programs, developing curriculum, and performing administrative duties.
Minimum requirements: High school/GED, considerable experience administering recreation programs, including some experience leading/supervising recreation programs.
Substitution: Completion of some college coursework may substitute for the experience requirement.
