Duties and Responsibilities:
*Develop meaningful relationships and connections with individuals to ensure they feel cared for and included in the community
*Be a personal companion to an individual and act as a supportive friend serving their needs and working to build their independence
*Encourage and foster individuals’ preferred hobbies and interests
*Assist with, and work to strengthen, the individuals’various daily living needs including but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication and socialization skills
*Help individuals to bathe, groom and dress, eat and drink if necessary, always working to improve self-reliance
*Provide transportation to appointments, meetings, community activities, events, etc.
*Encourage individual skill development and work towards community integration and participation
*Assist in the creation of relationships with the greater community to create natural friendships and support systems
*Be a compassionate, patient, and encouraging support professional at all times. You are a caregiver, cheerleader, and advocate rolled into one and your work can change the lives of many for the better
Qualifications:
• One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
All candidates must pass a criminal background investigation.
Travel will be required. The employee is expected to have reliable and safe means of transportation to transport clients to appointments, community engagement activities, and other activities in the community.
