Reports to: Division Supervisor

Dates:  June 24, 2024-August 2, 2024, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

Training Dates: June 20, 21, and 23rd 2024

Background:

Camp Rodef Shalom is a Jewish day camp in the heart of Falls Church, Virginia with over 40 years of history. With campers ranging in age from 4 to 12 years old, we offer a wide variety of activities and trips throughout the summer. Camp Rodef Shalom values inclusion and supports both campers and staff.

Position Summary:

Camp Rodef Shalom is seeking energetic, enthusiastic, fun and committed Assistant counselors for our summer season! Assistant Counselors are community builders who will work together with our junior and head counselors to create an amazing summer experience for all our campers. Assistant counselors should be able to lead their bunk, engage with campers and ensure all are involved, safe and enjoying camp!

Qualifications:

  • Must be entering 10th or 11th grade (fall of 2024)
  • Complete Staff Training and available to work the entire camp session
  • Experience working with children is preferred: must enjoy being around children while maintaining patience and high energy
  • Maturity & professionalism: must be able to focus prioritize staff responsibility over socializing with peers
  • Flexibility: must be a team-player and address problems as they arise
  • Takes initiative to lead and open to new experiences, opportunities and feedback
  • Must be able to participate in physical activity for the duration of the camp day: be on feet for most of the day, be outside in heat and sun, participate in activities, swim with campers in pool, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support Junior & Head Counselors to organize, lead and participate in camp activities
  • Assist with daily responsibilities including arrival, dismissal, restroom breaks, set ups, etc.
  • Ensure an inclusive camp group where all campers feel welcome: lead ice breakers, create personal connections, eat lunch with campers, etc.
  • Exhibit consistent role model behavior for campers and co-workers
  • Smile, be positive and embrace our camp spirit!
  • Report any concerns or incidents to Head Counselors and/or Leadership Team
