The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a full-time Counselor Aide for the National Capital Area Command Harbor Light Center, located in Washington, DC.
Works as assistant to Counselors and Case Managers for intake duties, in both individual and group client sessions; monitors client day-to-day activities; performs administrative tasks in support of Counselors and Case Managers; monitors treatment schedules, and drug screening test procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of alcoholism and substance abuse. Knowledge of relapse prevention planning. Knowledge of the 12-core functions. Knowledge of the 12-step process. Skill in relapse prevention. Skill in interview and counseling techniques. Skill in knowledge of recovery. Skill in understanding of group reactions. Ability to perform interview and public speaking tasks.
Education and Experience
Two years post-secondary education, Associate degree preferred AND one-year experience working in substance abuse rehabilitation, or related field; OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to lift light objects weighing less than 24 pounds.
Work may require performance of duties in medical environments and social services where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.
