Under supervision, schedule and post surgeries, and obtain pre-certification for various medical services performed within the Gastrointestinal division of the Medicine department. Knowledgeable in all participating third-party carrier policies and procedures regarding pre-certification.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s mission and MFA’s iCare values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

Schedules and post-surgeries for physicians in the department in a timely fashion.

Ensures the timely scheduling of surgeries, pre-op testing, and post-op testing.

Meet or call prospective surgery patients to determine the date, time frame, and facility for the procedure. Initial contact will be made within 2 business days.

Sets, date, and location for the procedure; arrange preoperative testing and/or exam.

Prepares and provide pre-op patient packet either in person, by mail, or by e-mail.

Answer telephone lines; make, reschedule, or cancel appointments forward or take messages as needed.

Schedules post-op appointments at the point of scheduling the surgery.

Maintains updated and accurate notes in the electronic medical record concerning all billing and insurance information.

Contacts third-party carriers to verify insurance benefits and obtains pre-authorization for all procedures.
