Performs clerical tasks necessary to ensure that each patient receives the items on the menu that meet the patients special needs. The Diet Office Clerk is able to process menus according to diet order or refer the menus and questions to the appropriate individuals. The Diet Office Clerk is responsible to process diet changes accurately. The Diet Office Clerk answers telephone calls from patients, family, staff and outside sources and must have good telephone skills. He or she will work together with the rest of the employees in the department to provide optimal food, nutritional and environmental services to the patients, visitors, and staff to promote the healing and well-being of each individual. The Diet Office Clerk will perform any other related tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient menus and patient diet patterns to ensure they follow the established standards and database information. The Diet Clerk checks the special diet menus including diabetic, cardiac and renal. Substitutions on special diet menus are made following specific guidelines for substitutions prepared by the Dietitians
  • Adhere to all patient identified allergies and food items restricted based on the Nutrition Care Orders in the database (CBORD)
  • Guides individuals and families in food selection, preparation and menu planning based upon nutritional needs. Assists in referrals to the clinical team for continuity of patient/resident care
  • Ensures all menus required for each meal period are complete, and ensures accurate production sheets and nourishment lists are generated from these menus
  • Answers the phone and enters menu selections accurately into CBORD using the approved scripting
  • May be required to update the patient database/kardex (CBORD) based on ADT updates, diet change orders and information provided by the Therapeutic Dietitian 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

**This is a permanent part time job; shifts vary
